Calibrating your Treadmill Wizard Motor Control Unit
Step 1
Press and hold both the Stop and Speed Up keys simultaneously while inserting the safety key.
Step 2
Press the Stop key once. The Time display window should indicate "EP:2P." Newer models may alternatively display "FP," "Pass," or similar indicators. This confirms successful completion of the EPROM test.
Step 3
Press either incline key to initiate automatic incline calibration.
Step 4
CAUTION: THE TREADMILL WILL OPERATE AT MAXIMUM SPEED DURING THIS PROCEDURE. DO NOT STEP ON THE WALKING BELT. Press and hold the Speed Up key until "85" appears in the Distance display window. Note that some models may display this value in an alternative window.
Step 5
If the treadmill's actual top speed does not correspond with the speed displayed on the console, adjustment of the maximum speed potentiometer on the Treadmill Wizard motor control board is required.
Step 6

The maximum speed potentiometer is a small square component with a adjustable orange center, labeled HD1 in the upper left corner of the board. Under normal circumstances, adjusting the orange potentiometer below it labeled HD2 is unnecessary. Using a small insulated screwdriver, rotate the potentiometer clockwise to increase speed or counter-clockwise to decrease the maximum speed. Exercise caution when making adjustments, as minimal rotation will produce significant speed variations.
Step 7
Precise calibration to the exact maximum speed is not required; however, ensure the speed setting remains within 0.2 MPH of the treadmill's maximum rated speed. For example, if the maximum rated speed is 10 MPH, adjust the setting to fall between 9.8 MPH and 10.2 MPH. Some models feature a 12 MPH maximum speed rating. Consult your user manual if the maximum speed specification is uncertain.
Step 8
CRITICAL: FAILURE TO COMPLETE THIS STEP WILL RESULT IN ERROR MESSAGES. Upon completion of speed calibration, press the Speed Down key. The treadmill will automatically return to 0 MPH. Allow the unit to come to a complete stop before proceeding to the next step.
Step 9
CRITICAL: FAILURE TO COMPLETE THIS STEP WILL RESULT IN ERROR MESSAGES. Press the Stop key once and remove the safety key to complete the calibration procedure.
